Here’s the situation:
I have a D-Link wireless card in my desktop and an Intel card in my laptop.
The problem:
Desktop disconnects constantly saying no wireless connection found. Laptop is connected with excellent strength 100 metres away.
The solution:
Take card out, run over it.
Anyone know of a good manufacturer who makes good wireless cards? I’m thinking of something like Belkin or Linksys.

First off, don’t hate D-Link. Hate D-Links wireless adapters - USB/PCI.
I have a D-Link 634-m (something like that) router. It is by far the best router I have ever had, except for the Cisco 2600 series :).
I think overall, the D-Link consumer routers are very web made, and the way they are made are really reliable.
The wireless adapters, on the other hand suck. They get too hot. The don’t do what there are suppose to, they degrade speed because of getting too hot. They lose connections regularly.
If I were you I would purchase an AirLink (if you are looking for a Desktop PCI solution). I have had sooooo much good luck with the cheap offbrand AirLink wireless cards. If you are wanting a USB solution, I would go with Linksys. D-Link is bad for this.. and so are Belkin and Netgear. I think out of them all, I think Netgear is the worst; although their switches are VERY good; rackmount switches of course (not desktop switches).
So, to some it up: D-Link doesn’t suck. And ….
USB solution -> Linksys
PCI solution -> Airlink (and if you don’t trust that … Linksys is good too when it comes to this)…
Hope this helps.
Thanks Drew.
I’ll have to have a look at Airlink.
I don’t mind the router, it works fine, it’s just the adapter.
Yea, routers are good
(D-Link of course) …
Sounds good, let me know how it goes. I don’t know where all Airlink is available at but I found mine at Fry’s Electronics.
Good luck.
Oh, and also to note, I’m in Australia.
However, I’ve found two nice ones:
Unfortunately, Airlink seems to be US only
An ASUS and a Linksys
I have an ASUS laptop (same one I mentioned above) so ASUS sounds attractive, but I know from mates that Linksys is good too.
I have to agree with you. I have had two D-Link Routers die on my hand for no good reason. :@
I like Linksys, it is really good quality, I have a router and network card that work really well.
Belkin is really good
