Hosting Services Upgrade
For everyone who I host here at Cube Games, there’s a few changes coming for you.
Update: (2007-06-24) Oops, forgot to update this, so I’ll do it now.
App index pages are up, check the downloads site. The traditional page is available on the list page
I have deleted the per-page redirects and instead moved them to a header file. The header checks if the requested page is available on the new site. If it is, it silently redirects them. If not, it adds a line to my log and keeps them on the page. To avoid this, you can access it via the link from the downloads site. The portables site now also has a large banner at the top, informing the user that they are on an archived site.
Update: (2007-05-27) The admin panel is under development and the mailer already works.
App index pages are under way, check the RSSOwl Portable page to see the single app page; the directory listing one is coming soon, but based on the userbars page.
Download statistics should be done by the end of the coming week; I wrote the system myself and it uses MySQL, so I should be ready to start implementing MySQL in Lilina soon.
The redirect is up and working for RSSOwl Portable and all apps will be moved over soon. The current portables site will be archived.
First off the block, I’m introducing a streamlined process for you to get apps uploaded. Instead of emailing me with it and explaining, there will be an address to send an email with just an attachment and nothing else. I will then upload it and send you back a link. This will eventually change to a program getting all emails from this address and automating the upload, but using a sender whitelist. All non-whitelisted senders will get a reply telling them to send it to my address so I can add them to the whitelist. Of course, all attachments must be in 7z files and no PHP, Perl, Python or HTML files will be allowed.
Also coming are app index pages, similar to the ones used on my PortableApps.com userbars page. These will be handmade at first, but changed to an automated system later on. If you wish for your app not to be listed, just email me and inform me.
One other thing I’ll be adding is a web-based admin system for you to manage web pages, send new apps via the new system and get them deleted as well. This will be entirely built on PHP and open-source too.
For all the oldies, I’ll be moving all the apps from the Portables sub-domain across into the Downloads directory. This should help me to manage all the apps and help everyone find your apps in the long run. I will be copying these at first then after 2 months, I’ll delete all the old pages and place redirects in case anyone has links still left.
A feature I’ve been wanting to add properly for a long time: download statistics. I previously used a PHP library to count them on the portables site, but this wouldn’t let people link directly to a file. I am glad to say, I’ll be using the stats directly from the server now. If anyone wants their current stats for this month, just email me.
And of course, if anyone wants to join the service, simply email me at cubegames[at]gmail.com
You took my idea for portableapp user bars!
Heh. I actually had them for a while, but never got around to improving them enough
